Reduced to tears I very rarely bother to do reviews online, but this is an exception. We had been struggling with our website and our website agency for a couple of years. Always a struggle getting things done, and always costly. One of our suppliers recommended CGain and now we could not be happier. When I first looked at the preview that Chris provided for our proposed new website, I actually cried. Embarrassing but true! It was everything we had dreamed of. Sales and enquiries are already increasing and our customers have been so complimentary. Chris clearly explained what was wrong with our old site and fixed everything. Now our website is an earner for the business rather than just a cost. - 23/02/21

SEO Blackpool – How Do I Make My Website Rank Higher on Organic Search?
This is the question that almost every business owner asks! There are many steps involved and a huge range of factors which determine how highly a web page ranks for a particular search phrase or topic cluster. By following Google and Bing Guidelines, we help your website rank as highly as possible in organic search by improving its visibility, performance and authoritative presence.
Simple. Content, Authority, Traffic and Infrastructure. If your site lags in the rankings, it is probably deficient in one or all of these 4 most important ranking factors. This is where our skills in web development based on WordPress, the leading content management system, come into play.
Increasing your presence and rankings in the search results for relevant search queries means more sales, enquiries, leads, bookings and awareness for your business.
Beware Of Snake-Oil Salesmen
There are many firms out there that will promise to upgrade your search listing rank to page 1 of Google. The vast majority are seo snake-oil salesmen who will take money off you for several months and deliver nothing of value. In many cases, they can downgrade your website by using black-hat search engine optimisation techniques such as spurious link-building or keyword spamming. The days of spamming page content with keywords and having links from thousands of worthless directories, forums and blogs have long gone in search engine optimization.
We perform website audits almost every week on behalf of clients to check the work done by so-called SEO experts. Very rarely do we find much evidence of any proper SEO work being done. Proper performance SEO Consultany Company work takes experience, skill, time and effort.
If anyone says that they are an ‘SEO Expert’, check where their website ranks on Google, then ask for client reviews and recommendations. Without trying to blow our own trumpet, we rank on page 1 of Google for all our relevant search keywords and have the best recommendations and client reviews in the Blackpool area.
We Use Professional Tools
We subscribe to the top SEO tools in the industry, such as Semrush, Ahrefs, Inlinks, On-Page, Keyword Insights, Sitebulb and more. At SEO Blackpool these tools help us to audit the SEO on your site, perform advanced keyword research, track rankings, analyse the competition and come up with ideas for new content.
These top tools allow us to see where your website is now in selected areas, compared to your competitors, perfect for detailed and gold-standard competitor analysis.
Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) is our favourite tool for providing reports to clients. These dashboards are live and interactive, allowing our clients to see crucial data such as ranking positions, new backlinks acquired, content gap analysis, visitor stats and other vital information.
Pay-Per-Click (Google Ads) vs Organic Search Engine Optimisation
Pay-per-click online advertising (Google Ads) works very quickly and effectively when set up correctly. Organic SEO takes planning and patience, but when done correctly is well worth the effort.
Ther’s a huge difference between SEO and Ads. As soon as you pause your Ads, your presence, visibility, traffic and enquiries stop dead – whereas with a top SEO campaign, your benefits continue.
We work closely with selected specialists to deliver highly targeted and effective Ads Campaigns. Fortunately for us, most Ads campaigns are run rather poorly; we see budgets being wasted, the wrong keywords being used and a general misunderstanding of the basic principles.
Our partners make Google Ads work efficiently for any business – and provide an excellent, measurable return on investment. As far as Organic SEO goes, it’s true we have taken several local firms from nowhere to page 1 within a couple of weeks or so on local search terms (mainly by correcting website infrastructure and optimising content) – but generally, you should be prepared to be in for the long haul on a professional organic SEO campaign.
A sensible plan for online marketing is to begin by combining a pay-per-click campaign, such as Google Ads, with an ongoing SEO strategy. This offers instant results whilst building a foundation for the future of your business.
We currently have SEO Blackpool clients spending as little as £10 a week on Google Ads and some spending hundreds per day. We ensure that all are getting excellent results for their spending. Fees for managing a Google Ads Campaign start at just £500 per month.
The Value of Backlinks
Around 20 years ago, backlinks seemed to be the most important factor in SEO. Backlinks are simply links to your website from another website. Any backlink used to do the job of fooling Google’s Algorithm to rank your site higher.
These days, backlinks are looked at very differently by professional SEO consultants. The only backlinks to work for are now those with relevance to yours – that relevance may be by location or topical relevance. A good backlink should provide traffic to your website as well as provide an authority boost.
A handful of relevant backlinks will always outperform thousands of spam backlinks. We can provide a backlink audit for your website and identify areas of improvement.
High-performing websites need high-quality web hosting. Cheap web hosting on shared servers, sharing space and resources with hundreds of others, rarely cuts it. A successful website benefits from fit-for-purpose hosting backed up by knowledgeable professionals.
Quality web hosting will run your site fast, constantly check for errors, and hit Google audit performance guidelines.
We have many tools available to measure the success of an SEO Campaign…
Traffic Measurement
Using Google’s own free tools it is easy to measure how many visits your individual pages and entire website receive each day, week and month. A successful SEO Campaign will increase the traffic to your website.
Revenue
If your website sells products, services or bookings, a successful SEO Campaign will see a significant increase.
Enquiries
A reputable and experienced SEO Agency such as CGain will demonstrate an increase in enquiries through phone calls, enquiry forms and emails to your business.
Ranking Positions
Generally speaking, the higher your business ranks on Google for relevant search queries, the more clicks you will receive. Ranking on page 1 of the results is crucial, but you will earn more visitors the higher you rank.
#2 – KNOW THE KILLER SEARCH PHRASES FOR YOUR BUSINESS
To begin, you will need to know the keywords and phrases that your potential customers are using to find your products and services on the internet. One tool for this is Google Adwords – simply open an account and poke around. Our process uses professional tools such as SEMRush and Ahrefs along with Google Analytics and Search Console to audit your website and those of your competitors. We can quickly build up a list of the most powerful search keywords and phrases, along with – importantly – the amount of times each one is used per month.
Much guesswork goes into keywords, where there is absolutely no excuse to not actually obtain the facts. After all, there is not much point in spending hours and hours to optimise your website for a search phrase that might only get used a couple of times a month.
Once you have a list of the most important search phrases for your products and/or services, remember to check them regularly. Trends do change over time.
To save you hours of your time, our team do offer a keyword research service. At SEO Blackpool we use Professional SEO tools costing thousands of pounds per year to provide the very best analytics for our clients, giving them the edge over their competition. Ask for details.
Our Content Gap Analysis report identifies all the keywords that your competitors rank for that you do not.
#3 – CHECK WHERE YOUR WEBSITE RANKS NOW
You will need to check exactly where your site currently ranks for each keyword or phrase. The recommended way to do this is to use a tool such as ProRankTracker. For free, this tool will automatically give you regular reports on where your site ranks for up to 20 keywords or phrases. For around £10 a month, you can track up to 250.
20 keywords is ‘just’ enough for most small local businesses. Having 250 allows you to explore further and even to check the rankings of your competitors.
You could, of course, just do your own searches in Google. The problem here is that you will get skewed results. Google remembers who you are, which sites you visit and a whole host of other information about you. The chances are that your own site – which you visit regularly – will appear artificially high in your searches.
ProRankTracker will also suggest new keywords and phrases for you, based on your website content. A very useful tool, highly recommended. As standard, we set this up for free for all new SEO Blackpool clients.
#4 – INFRASTRUCTURE – Does your website tick all the search engine boxes?
Google (with around 80% of the search market) and Bing provide web developers with sets of guidelines which help us to create or upgrade a website with search engine optimisation in mind. Some 90% or more of websites out there do not comply with these guidelines, meaning that they are appearing much lower down the search rankings than they should be.
A search engine robot program does not care how pretty your website looks, all it cares about is being able to index it quickly and efficiently.
Is your page indexable by Google and Bing? If you ensure that your website is linked to Google Search Console, you can check this easily.
Do all your links work correctly? Check each link on each page. Broken links will cause your site to be marked down.
Is the HTML structure of each page correct? (eg. meta-title, meta-description, h1, h2, h3, body)
Does it load quickly? TIP – Use Google Pagespeed Insights to check, it will give you a score and most importantly give you tips on how to increase the speed.
Is it mobile-friendly? With mobile usage now exceeding traditional desktop computer usage on the internet, Google now ranks mobile-friendly websites higher when a search is performed on a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet. Use Google’s Mobile Friendly Checker for this.
Is it using Google’s recommended Structured Data Snippets? These invisible code snippets help Google index and rank your website correctly. Check your website’s structured data here.
Is your content well-written? Google’s algorithm likes easy-to-read and well-structured text. We use some serious software to ‘grade’ the quality of written content on a web page which helps us in optimization by creating killer content.
Contact us at SEO Blackpool for an evaluation of your current website. We can give you a list of pointers that, if acted upon, will guarantee short and long term improvements in your rankings.
We start EVERY SEO campaign by analysing your existing site, then FIXING every anomaly and error. A successful campaign only builds from a solid infrastructure.
Use this tool for some analytics into your existing website…
#5 – CONTENT – Is your content well-written, original and useful?
Content is King with Google and Bing. Your website content needs to show authority on the subject in question, be original and actually be useful to your audience.
Consider exactly what your potential customers want to know, and give it to them. Do they want prices, advice, information, entertainment or something else? By entering a search query into Google and looking at the organic results on page 1, you can gauge the ‘search intent’ of that query – be it advice, a ‘how-to’, reviews, further information or to make a direct purchase.
Copying and pasting content from other websites is no good as eventually your site will be marked down for duplicate content.
Your content can be structured to include favoured keywords and phrases (the words your customers are searching for), along with related keywords and phrases. Content should be written for the user though, and not just with a search engine robot in mind. Spammy content will be downgraded. Useful content will always aid conversion rates.
Do not forget important content such as your address and contact information (!), your location (with directions if relevant), and statutory information such as ‘Terms of Service’, ‘Privacy Policy’, ‘Refunds’ (if you are selling anything from the website) and the legal status of your business (Ltd., Sole Trader, Partnership etc.)
Websites that hide their contact phone number, address, or legal status are much more difficult to perform search engine optimization for.
Use your own images. If you can, use your own original images if they are up to scratch. If not, you can consider hiring a professional photographer or you can use a Stock Image Library – our favourite is the Adobe Stock Library (high quality images are just £5.99 each). Pixabay and other similar websites provide plenty of images for free, although generally these are of lower quality.
Never copy images from the web for your business website as you could be fined by copyright holders (many of whom actively search out illicit use of their images across the web).
No News is Bad News. For most businesses it will be relevant for you to have a News or Blog section on your website. Seach engines like finding new content every time they scan your site (typically every week or so).
If you are running an e-commerce website, adding new products or a special offer at least every week will do.
If yours is a brochure or information site, find some news to post every week. This could be in the form of client reviews, advice, information on a new service or product or a blog of how the working week has progressed and how you have helped your customers.
Video is Great! Video content relevant to your business is perfect – and loved by search engines. Film simple ‘how-to’ clips, product demonstrations, testimonials from clients or just a short tour around your premises. Videos can be hosted on your own website, or hosted for free on Youtube, then embedded into your site.
You can improve the content of your website yourself, or have your staff do it. Alternatively, contact us at SEO Blackpool and we can come up with a monthly plan geared around optimising your website for search and creating new content.
#6 – LINKS – Relevant, High Quality incoming and outgoing Links
Links used to be the ‘be all and end all’ of SEO. Thousands of links into your website used to mean success in SEO – but now the algorithms have evolved.
Links from spurious websites can actually harm your ranking. This most commonly happens after a business has paid an overseas ‘SEO Expert’ a few dollars to rank higher. This situation can take a long time to recover from and can cost far more to put right than the original deal.
Concentrate on High Quality Links both in and out. The obvious incoming links will be from Social Media such as a Facebook Business page, Google Business Profile page, Twitter account, Google Maps, Youtube, Pinterest, Tripadvisor, Press Release sites and the like. Trusted directory listings also help to solidify your ranking, but beware of paying often extortionate amounts for these! Our service for Directory Citation Building is highly effective and very cheap at just £6 per listing. Links from suppliers, clients and trade bodies are excellent, these add considerable credibility.
If your content is really original, authoritative or entertaining then a number of links to it will happen naturally. A great SEO manager will organise stunning content which appeals to your audience and will then invite other quality websites to link to it. This is a win-win, your site gets a quality link and the linking site gets new content.
If your News items or Blogs are up to scratch you can provide an RSS Feed. This is a bit of code which other websites can include on their pages to show your news or blog feed – with every item linking to your site.
A favourite approach is to search the web for sites with broken links. Often you can enlighten the webmaster about the broken link and then suggest a new link for them on your site, covering that content.
NEVER EVER PAY FOR INCOMING LINKS! Google really does not like this!
For outgoing links, again the main ones will be to your Social Media accounts, but also consider trade bodies which you are a member of. For your news items or product info pages, provide a link to an authority relevant to the information. If you see a great article on your subject somewhere else, do not be shy about linking to it.
One of our Competitor Analysis reports will identify any decent links your competition have that you do not.
#7 – USABILITY, LOOK & FEEL
If you have done all the hard work above, it would be a crying shame if visitors abd website users are put off when they land on your site. Use friends and family, plus customers and suppliers to rigorously test your site and offer feedback. The pickier the better!
A menu system which works equally well on desktop and mobile devices is crucial. If your site has many pages, add a search box.
Consider your colour scheme and any other features which make visiting your website a positive user experience.
CTA’s – Calls To Action – are imperative and need to be clear and concise to raise conversion rates. CTA’s include links to other pages, sign-up forms, ‘buy now’ buttons, contact forms and simple ‘call me’ buttons.
Our SEO clients have regular independent user-interface checks. These checks, done by people unconnected with our or your business, will provide honest and common-sense reports about the good, the bad and the ugly on your website.
#8 – PAGE LOADING SPEED
With the massively increased usage of mobile devices, website page loading speed is now a huge issue. Google ranks faster websites higher, simple.
Use PageSpeed Insights from Google to obtain a speed score for your pages. In the Green is great, anything else does need looking at.
Reasons for slow loading pages
Non-optimised images. Huge images will slow performance. Images need to be processed and optimised before using on a website.
CSS stylesheets can be overly large. Ideally these should be minified or compressed.
Javascript code can slow performance, again this can be compressed.
Low quality and cheap hosting will have an effect on speed, especially shared servers which host thousands of sites. This is why we we only offer SEO services on websites hoted on our advanced servers.
Fortunately, most websites can be dramatically improved. We can make almost any site reach the green zone, ask for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Check our Frequently Asked Questions or Get In Touch
What Is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, involves the enhancement of pages on a website so that they appear higher in search engine rankings for relevant search phrases. Professional SEO requires many different skillsets and disciplines such as coding, content writing, content outreach, link building and more.
I Already Have My Own Hosting. Can You Work On My Website?
No. We only work on websites that we host ourselves. This is due to the technical specifications required for a successful SEO campaign. Our fast servers have all this in place, most other hosting servers do not. Check out hosting services here.
How Do I Know That CGain Are Any Good At SEO?
You can read our reviews! Or, do a search in Google using highly competitive terms such as ‘SEO Blackpool’, ‘Search Engine Optimisation Blackpool’ or even ‘Web Design Blackpool’.
How long does it take for Search Engine Optimization to work?
This is dependent on many different variables including the industry you’re in and the competition level of your target phrases. As a benchmark, you should expect to see some progression by month three of your campaign, and start seeing solid results at around six months.
Our search engine optimization process is based on our SOPs (standard operating procedures), all proven and tested to increase your internet visibility and presence.
How does link building help SEO?
One of the biggest rewards in gaining an increased number of links pointing to your site is gaining Google’s trust. By earning/getting links from relevant and/or high in authority websites, Google will see the trust other sites have given to your site and will start to trust it themselves. The ultimate result of this is Google ranking your site higher for various keyword phrases in its search engine, usually resulting in higher traffic.
Is HTTPS better for SEO?
Simply, yes. Having your site on a secure server (which is what HTTPS signifies) is a sign to Google that users on the site can trust you. Most websites can obtain a free SSL certificate, and it’s quite easy to implement. This would be one of my first port-of-calls when looking at a new site from an SEO perspective.
What is on-page optimisation in SEO?
On page optimisation is ensuring that various signals on the pages of a website send the appropriate signals to Google that help to improve rankings. Whether this be great content, improved page titles with reference to the topic written about, or inter-linking content are just a few examples of on-page optimisation.
Is SEO or social media a more important marketing priority?
Digital marketing is working together more than ever before and having a well-rounded strategy of different channels – including SEO and social media – is the key to create the greatest amount of online visibility.
Whilst some industries will suit one digital marketing discipline or more, it largely comes down to where you audience is looking for your services. A number of paid options when applying social media marketing also mean that if you’re looking for a quick short-term return this could be the better option – again, depending on your product or service.
What is image optimisation in SEO?
Image optimisation is a tale of two halves, the first being focused around ensuring the image is compressed as much as possible without loss of quality. This allows the image file size to be decreased, and therefore load quickly. You should also make sure that you’re serving images which are scaled correctly. The second half is ensuring that images have appropriate file names and alt text. For example, an image with a file name of ‘IMAGE1.PNG’ and an alt text of ‘IMAGE1’ isn’t useful for search engines, nor people using accessibility software. The filename and alt text should accurately describe the contents of the image – for example, ‘red-car.png’ and ‘red car on a road’.
What is CGain’s history and how did they become leaders in SEO?
Owner Chris Giles was working as a consultant in the large format graphics industry as the internet began in the early 90s, specialising in the sale and installation of Apple Macintosh computers and related peripherals.
CGain began building websites in 1995 and the rest is history.
How does authority improve a website’s presence in search results?
The authority of a website is a combination of powerful and relevant backlinks from other sites, and the quality of the content. A higher authority raises your site’s presence in search engine rankings and helps you to rank for more keywords.
What are CGain’s plans for the future?
CGain is currently amalgamating into Augmun Solutions Ltd, managed by Chris Giles Snr, eldest son Chris Giles Jnr and middle son Chay Giles. Specialist staff include graphic designers, content writers and developers. Augmun provides specialist SEO Services to a number of larger organisations and other web agencies.

Understanding SEO
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility and ranking of a website on search engine results pages (SERPs). It involves optimising various aspects of a website, such as its content, structure, and HTML coding, to make it more appealing to search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Keywords play a crucial role in SEO. They are the terms and phrases that people type into search engines when looking for information, products, or services. By researching and selecting the right keywords, businesses can target their ideal customers and increase their chances of appearing in organic search results.
Search engines use complex algorithms to determine the relevance and quality of a website’s content. They consider factors such as the website’s domain authority, page speed, mobile-friendliness, and backlink profile. By optimising these factors, businesses can improve their chances of ranking higher on SERPs.
Organic search results are the listings that appear on SERPs without the use of paid advertising. They are based on the relevance and quality of a website’s content and are considered more trustworthy and valuable than paid results. By improving their organic search ranking, businesses can increase their visibility and attract more traffic to their website.
In summary, SEO is a crucial aspect of digital marketing that can help businesses in Blackpool and beyond increase their online visibility, attract more traffic, and generate more leads and sales. By understanding the importance of SEO and implementing effective strategies, businesses can stay ahead of the competition and achieve long-term success.
For businesses in Blackpool, SEO plays a crucial role in driving growth and success.
